Safety technology manufacturer Dräger has secured a six figure contract with a major Scotch whisky distiller to supply gas detection equipment, training and ongoing technical support across multiple sites in Scotland.
The agreement covers 65 portable multigas detectors, X zone area monitors, bump test stations, accessories and test gas, alongside fixed gas detection servicing.
Managing ethanol vapour risks in distilleries
The equipment has been configured to detect ethanol vapour, a hazard associated with fermentation and distillation processes.
Ethanol vapour can create potentially explosive atmospheres in enclosed or poorly ventilated environments, particularly during maintenance and hot works activities.
The contract is intended to strengthen atmospheric monitoring across the distiller’s estate, supporting the identification and management of hazardous conditions.
Supporting confined space safety
The agreement also includes equipment provision for confined space entry, including tank inspections, vessel maintenance and work in enclosed areas.
Portable gas detection equipment will enable personnel to undertake atmospheric checks before entry and maintain continuous monitoring during operations.
Dräger will provide onsite training for designated personnel, covering equipment operation and safety considerations specific to individual facilities.
A hire service will also support planned shutdowns and temporary equipment requirements.
Consolidating gas detection maintenance
The new agreement extends an existing fixed gas detection contract supported by Dräger’s field engineering team.
Both fixed and portable equipment will now be covered by a consolidated maintenance and calibration programme.
Paul Davidson, UK MGM Marketing Manager, Dräger, said: “Distilleries present a specific and consistent set of atmospheric hazards which necessitates ensuring that the equipment configuration is right for each individual environment.
“Working with a major distiller to considerably enhance the safety of each of their Scottish sites represents a significant win for Dräger. We’re pleased to be supporting a globally recognised brand with sites across Scotland, particularly so as a substantial extension of a service relationship that was already in place.”
Local engineering support will provide access to repairs, calibration services and replacement equipment, helping minimise disruption during scheduled maintenance and urgent operational requirements.
