SHOWA has launched the RECYCLED MFT PRO GP381E, a general purpose protective glove containing more than 80% recycled material within its liner.

Designed for oily and greasy working environments, the glove combines recycled microfibre and nylon yarn with an embossed microporous nitrile palm coating.

Grip for industrial applications

The coating is designed to provide grip in wet and oily conditions, with applications including mechanical engineering, maintenance and automotive assembly.

GP381E incorporates SHOWA’s MicroFiber Technology, using extra fine fibres to create close contact between the hand and glove. The design is intended to improve internal grip, fit and control during precise handling tasks.

The microfibre liner is also water absorbent and quick drying to help manage moisture during extended periods of wear.

Kyohei Watanabe, Global Product Coordinator at SHOWA, said: “Businesses are increasingly looking for practical ways to reduce the environmental impact of their PPE, but performance and worker acceptance cannot be compromised.

“The development challenge was therefore to introduce a high level of recycled content while preserving the comfort, fit and control users expect from the MFT PRO range.

“GP381E shows how recycled materials can be introduced into industrial hand protection without losing sight of the qualities that matter to the wearer.”

PPE standards and protection

The glove is free from natural rubber latex and is available in sizes 6/S to 10/XXL. It meets requirements under the European PPE Regulation 2016/425, EN ISO 21420 and EN 388:2016, alongside relevant EN 407 requirements covering protection against contact heat.

GP381E builds on the original SHOWA MFT PRO 381 and subsequent products using the company’s microfibre liner technology.

Reducing PPE material use

A gold coloured cuff has been introduced to distinguish products within the recycled series.

SHOWA has also removed single use plastic from the product packaging, replacing it with paper banding.

GP381E is the first glove within the RECYCLED MFT PRO range. SHOWA plans to introduce three further models using recycled liner technology for additional working environments.
