The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched six new easy read training guides designed to make workplaces more inclusive for disabled workers and those with long-term health conditions.
Easy read uses plain language, short sentences, and clear visuals to make written information more accessible, particularly for people with learning disabilities or for those who speak English as a second language.
The new guides build on HSE’s existing disabled workers’ resources and are aimed at supporting both recruitment and retention. They also provide managers with practical advice on fostering inclusive, supportive working environments.
Among the topics covered are the legal rights of disabled workers, approaches to workplace health, identifying and addressing barriers, and making reasonable adjustments.
The guides are intended to complement HSE’s established Talking Toolkit, offering managers conversation-based guidance and sample questions to help them start meaningful dialogue and build trust with workers who may need extra support.
