DuPont has launched the DuPont Tychem 6000 SFR in the European market, introducing a lightweight hooded garment designed to help protect workers exposed to combined chemical and flash fire hazards.
Multi hazard protection for high risk industries
The Tychem 6000 SFR garment is intended for use in demanding environments where both chemical exposure and flash fire risks are present.
DuPont said the garment may be suitable for industries and applications including refineries, petrochemical facilities, laboratories, maintenance operations and fire departments.
The garment provides a permeation barrier of up to 30 minutes against more than 250 chemical challenges.
These include toxic industrial chemicals, chemical warfare agents and flammable organic solvents.
Designed to support flame resistance
Tychem 6000 SFR is designed to provide secondary flame resistance when worn over primary flame resistant clothing such as garments made with DuPont Nomex.
According to DuPont, in the event of a flash fire the garment will not contribute to additional burn related injuries when suitable flame resistant personal protective equipment is worn underneath.
The company added that the system may also help reduce body burn levels compared with wearing primary flame resistant clothing alone.
Garment features improve fit and protection
The hooded garment includes a respirator fit hood with covered elastic face opening, taped seams and a double storm flap closure with double sided adhesive tape to help reduce chemical ingress. A chin flap with adhesive tape is designed to improve neck protection and respirator compatibility.
Additional features include a nylon zip with a large metal pull for easier donning and removal, alongside an elasticated waist and covered elastic wrist and ankle openings to improve comfort and mobility during use.
Ernest Foy, Technical Lead Tychem® Garments at DuPont, said: “We’re excited to launch Tychem® 6000 SFR that expands our portfolio of SFR protective garment solutions.
“Tychem® 6000 SFR offers a light-weight secondary flame-resistant garment with a higher level of chemical protection to help protect those working in hazardous environments.”
