Buckeye Corrugated, Inc (BCI) has celebrated the acceptance of its Cedar Falls, Iowa, facility into the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program, (SHARP).

Employees, government officials, community leaders and guests attended an event at the facility to mark the achievement.

The recognition distinguishes BCI Cedar Falls as a model for workplace safety and health among its industry peers and reflects its commitment to maintaining a safe, healthy and supportive working environment.

Safety practices showcased

Guests toured the manufacturing facility, viewed production equipment and processes and met BCI team members.

The event also provided an opportunity to learn about the systems and practices that contributed to the facility achieving SHARP recognition.

Andrew Ogden, General Manager, BCI Cedar Falls, said:“Achieving SHARP recognition is a direct reflection of our employees and their commitment to looking out for one another every day.

“Safety is not simply a policy or program at this facility. It is part of our culture and an essential part of how we operate. This achievement belongs to the entire Cedar Falls team.”

OSHA programme requirements

SHARP recognises qualifying employers that have used OSHA’s On Site Consultation Program and operate exemplary workplace safety and health programmes.

To qualify, facilities must complete a comprehensive consultation, correct identified hazards and demonstrate an effective system for continuously identifying and addressing workplace safety risks.

Employees celebrate recognition

Approximately 100 people attended the event, which included employee activities, local food trucks, facility tours and remarks from BCI and community leaders.

Participating food trucks included Burger Box, Kona Ice and Fried Fun Cakes.

The celebration concluded with remarks from BCI leadership and Cedar Falls officials, followed by OSHA representatives officially presenting the SHARP flag.

Mayor praises safety culture

Cedar Falls Mayor Danny Laudick said:”BCI’s SHARP certification exemplifies the kind of employee-first mentality that I’m proud to recognise. Our communities are only as strong as the businesses and families who call them home.

“And as someone whose job it is to look out for the well-being of the community at large, it means a lot to me to know we have employers like BCI doing the same thing for their teams right on the shop floor.

The SHARP designation reinforces the facility’s commitment to employee participation, hazard prevention, safety training, continuous improvement and leadership engagement.

It also provides BCI Cedar Falls with an opportunity to share successful workplace safety practices with customers, partners and other employers throughout the region.

Cedar Falls manufacturing operations

Located at 2900 Capital Way, the Cedar Falls facility manufactures corrugated packaging solutions for customers throughout the region.

The operation forms part of BCI’s national network, combining local service with the resources, scale and expertise of an American sourced and made manufacturing organisation.
