The National Safety Council in the US has named Debra Sanchez as executive vice president for advocacy and external affairs. The newly created role is intended to strengthen the organisation’s national voice and build external partnerships.
Sanchez has more than 25 years of experience in public media and education policy, focusing on turning research into action and developing coalitions that deliver public impact. She will lead the communications, government affairs and safety leadership and advocacy teams.

This newly created role positions us to more effectively engage with partners and advance policies that save lives.”
Sanchez previously worked at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, most recently as executive vice president for government and external affairs, corporate secretary and chief of staff. During her time there she led national initiatives using trusted media, research-based content and local partnerships in areas such as education, civic participation and workforce readiness. She joined CPB in 2009.
Before that, she served as vice president of government relations for the Association of Public Television Stations, promoting education policy and building bipartisan support in Congress.
Sanchez holds a bachelor of science in special education from Indiana University and received the university’s School of Education Distinguished Alumni Award in 2024.
