The American Ladder Institute (ALI) is gearing up for its annual ladder safety awareness campaign.
March is National Ladder Safety Month and it is the only program dedicated to promoting safe ladder use both in the workplace and at home.
This year is the event’s 10th anniversary and will be themed around “10 Years of Safer Climbing”.
Ladder Injury Risks
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health reports that more than half a million people in the US are treated for ladder-related injuries every year, and there are around 300 fatalities.
National Ladder Safety Month 2026 will focus on five key topics: Choosing the Right Ladder, Check Before You Climb, Set It Up Safely, Climb Safely, Work Safely, and Safe Steps with Stepstools.
Ladder Standards
ALI is the only approved developer of safety standards for the US ladder industry. Its members are from the US and Canada.
It oversees technical specifications which are developed and tested by subject experts.
ALI also prescribes rules governing the safety construction, design, testing, care, and use of various types of ladders.
It offers a free, on demand ladder safety training program. This training is a tool for the proper selection, care, and safe use of all ladders, including stepladders, single and extension ladders, articulated ladders and mobile ladders.
The goals of National Ladder Safety Month are: raising awareness of ladder safety, decreasing injuries and fatalities caused by ladder misuse and increasing the number of people certified in Ladder Safety Training.
